Out of State Tickets

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Out of state tickets are the bread and butter of any State Trooper, Highway Patrol, local police or Sheriff. Who better to issue a traffic ticket to then the guy from out of town. Fighting the ticket is more difficult because you are from another state, making appearing in traffic court extremely difficult. Some states will allow you to fight your ticket through the mail, which is called a trial by written declaration. The sad reality is that most out of state speeders just pay the traffic fine and move on, which continually feeds government bank accounts.

You must realize that when driving in another state, you do not want to draw ANY attention to yourself or your out of state vehicle. Drive the speed limit and be extra vigilant when driving in other states. Speeding is not the only ticket they will issue. Many states have differing laws regarding red light violations, right turns on a red light, entering an intersection, and other types of infractions that they will cite you for.

Tickettutor.com recommends that people try to fight traffic tickets more often because you have a good chance of beating a ticket when the officer is forced to respond to your legal actions. Best of all, the legal actions do not require the help of an attorney and you can fight the ticket yourself. Tickettutor.com is a company that teaches people how to fight a ticket.

The Truth About Motor Cops and the Highway Patrol

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Here are the facts about the real purpose of the Highway Patrol and Motorcycle Cops in every city. Their sole purpose is to generate revenue for their city, state, or county. Law enforcement officials will tell you motor cops are trying to reduce traffic accidents, which is true, but the revenue they generate can be significant. In the Los Angeles area, motor cops try to write between 15-20 citations during their shift. The city gets the revenue, or at least a portion of the revenue, that is collected by the courts. If the average ticket is $250 then each officer is generating about $3,750 - $5,000 every shift they work. Now consider the revenue generated by the hundreds of motor officers employed in Los Angeles. The revenue can become staggering very quickly. Knowing of the massive revenue that traffic officers can generate is enough to make most people upset and this is frequently a motivating factor when deciding to fight a ticket.

Very few patrol officers generate this type of revenue because taking people to jail only costs money and does not generate revenue. Think about it, a person in jail has to be fed, cared for, supervised, housed, transported, and protected. These things all cost money, but write a ticket and the police department makes money, which is exactly why a motorcycle officer rarely gives a warning. If you believe that you got an unfair ticket, consider fighting the ticket. You don’t have to be the one to contribute to their revenue stream.

Most Expensive States for Speeding Tickets

Monday, December 24th, 2007

A recent article by Forbes.com was published on Yahoo Finance that identified the most expensive states and their fines for speeding tickets. The article seemed to validate the importance of fighting a speeding ticket when speeding fines can easily top $1,000. Many states have an initial traffic fine of $300, but then the court adds an additional penalty that can easily exceed $1,000. If you want to fight a speeding ticket that may result in the huge penalties that are mentioned in the Forbes article, then you should consider using Ticket Tutor to fight a ticket. Ticket Tutor’s CEO indicated that their company, Ticket Tutor, LLC., has experienced a significant increase in business from Virginia and several of the other states that Forbes identified. The CEO added, “It appears that legislators have created fines that are so expensive that people will pay them, but the fines do not justify hiring an attorney for $4,000 to try and beat a ticket without any promise or guarantee winning the ticket. People are only left to use their own ideas or those provided by Ticket Tutor’s law enforcement experts.” Here is the breakdown for the most expensive states for first time speeding tickets.

Virginia = $1,350

Georgia = $1,000

North Carolina = $1,000

New Hampshire = $1,000

Illinois = $1,000

Nevada = $1,000

Utah = $750

Should I Buy a Radar Detector

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

The answer is a resounding, Yes! Radar detectors are excellent at spotting the police before the police spot you. Officers can use a variety of techniques to surprise people that have radar detectors, but for the most part the radar detector will let you know the police are present before you ever see the police. That means if you can’t see them, they probably can’t see you. Therefore, no speeding ticket for you.

A radar detector simply detects the radio signals that are emitted from the radar gun. Newer technology allows officers to use laser as well. Let’s face it, each time any device is used it emits some type of signal that can be detected. Our law enforcement experts recommend that you buy a high quality detector that detects both radar and laser. Most modern units detect both radar and laser and you can spend from as little as $75 to as much as $400. TicketTutor.com recommends that you spend around $150 to ensure you purchase a dependable detector. Even a $400 detector will pay for itself very quickly when you consider that speeding tickets in California, New York, Florida and other major cities can easily exceed $400. That makes a radar detector very cost effective. The savings can even be higher if you factor in the cost of increased insurance rates as a result of getting a speeding ticket and the lost wages you will have due to fighting a speeding ticket and having to appear in court.

You must ensure it is legal to use such a device in your home state or country. It is also generally illegal to use a radar detector in any commercial vehicle. It is recommend that you contact your municipal police department, sheriff’s department, state trooper or highway patrol. They should be able to explain the law as it applies in your city and state.

How to Avoid a Radar Speeding Ticket

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Many people speed down highways looking for the Highway Patrol in hopes of not getting a speeding ticket. Here are a few tips to avoid being caught by radar and avoid having to fight a ticket in court. Radar works by sending out a signal that strikes a vehicle and the signal returns to the radar gun. The radar gun calculates how fast a vehicle is traveling by measuring how many feet the vehicle has traveled in a given number of seconds. For example: If a vehicle traveled 275 feet in 3-seconds the radar gun would indicate the vehicle’s speed is 62.5 MPH. (The math equation is the number of feet traveled, divided by the number of seconds, times .681818182 = ________ Speed in MPH).

Some methods to avoid a speeding ticket by radar:

1. On the freeway, drive in the middle lanes because you are less likely to have the radar beam focused on your vehicle.

2. Drive near larger vehicles. Large vehicles (Moving truck, 18-wheeler, SUV’s, Etc.) have a greater surface area and return more of the radar beam to the radar gun, so your vehicle is less likely to be perceived as the speeding vehicle. You must be very careful not to drive in “blind spots.”

3. Follow cars, don’t be the leader of the pack. The leader of the pack is the first vehicle to return a radar signal to the awaiting officer. It is much better to be lost in the middle. It is much more difficult to determine the speed of a vehicle that is in the middle of the pack. Also, there is approximately 3-seconds of lag time while the radar gun calculates a reading. So if you follow a vehicle within 3-second spacing, the radar will not even detect your vehicle. Remember, always follow at a safe distance because following too close is also illegal. You can test this technique on the radar units that are posted or parked on the side of the road to remind you of your speed.

4. It is also wise to purchase a quality radar detector. The price of radar detectors varies from between $50-$400. Obviously the more expensive radar detectors are generally higher quality. You can purchase an adequate detector for around $125-$150. You might not want to trust on a cheaper unit. It is important to determine if your state allows the use of a radar detector.

This blog is not intended to teach you how to get away with speeding, but it is designed to give you tips to increase your chances of not getting a speeding ticket. Remember, knowledge is power. Now that you are aware of these tips, let others get the speeding tickets, not you!

How to fight a speeding ticket

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Many people ask if it is worth fighting a speeding ticket? There are many factors that should be considered before you decide to fight a traffic ticket. First, you should determine what your options are. If you just want to attend traffic school, then fighting your ticket might not be the way to go. However, let’s just say you drive a truck for a company and your employer will be notified of your speeding ticket, it might be worth trying to beat your traffic ticket.

Fighting a traffic ticket requires a little preparation. As a former law enforcement officer, I frequently sat in court and listened to people make feeble attempts to fight a ticket. I quickly saw that very few people understood how to fight a ticket. Even fewer people know that in some cases they can have as many as 3-4 chances to beat their ticket. They can even be found guilty and still beat their ticket. Many companies offer help fighting speeding tickets and other traffic violations. Ticket Tutor seems to be an excellent resource for people that want to beat a traffic ticket. Tickettutor.com gives people the questions needed to fight a ticket in court. Ticket Tutor has developed a system that teaches the average person how to beat their ticket. Ticket Tutor also gives you definitions of “Hot Topics” that are used in court. In a nutshell, if you understand the lingo and you have prepared, you can really make it tough for any officer to beat you in court.
